DROWNING POOL Singer: 'We're Like The Cockroaches Of Metal'
April 8, 2009The Pulse of Radio reports: Nearly two years after the release of its third album, "Full Circle", in the summer of 2007, DROWNING POOL has broken into the rock radio Top 10 with the latest single from the CD, "37 Stitches". Yet even with that, a new live album and an upcoming slot on this summer's Crüe Fest 2 on the band's plate, singer Ryan McCombs told The Pulse of Radio that work has already begun on the group's next studio effort. "Counting the live album that just dropped, this will be the fifth DROWNING POOL record, that we're working on right now," he said. "That's crazy. You know, I can't believe — we're like the cockroaches of metal, we just won't go away. It's crazy to think about that, really. It's been a long, strange trip, to steal a phrase."
McCombs is DROWNING POOL's third singer. Original vocalist Dave Williams died from heart disease in 2002 while on tour. His replacement, Jason "Gong" Jones, only stuck around for the band's second album.
If McCombs makes it all the way through the new record, he will be the first DROWNING POOL frontman to sing on two studio albums.
The group's new live release, "Loudest Common Denominator", came out last month.
DROWNING POOL will join MÖTLEY CRÜE, GODSMACK, THEORY OF A DEADMAN and CHARM CITY DEVILS on Crüe Fest 2, which kicks off on July 19 in Camden, New Jersey.
Eleven Seven Music President Nikki Sixx (of MÖTLEY CRÜE) recently called DROWNING POOL "one of the best survival stories in rock right now. For a band to be on its third album, with their third lead singer and finally reaching the Top 10 with their third single from an album released almost two years ago, is a remarkable feat. I'm excited that DROWNING POOL will have the opportunity to play in front of hundreds of thousands of dedicated rock fans across America as part of Crüe Fest 2 tour this summer."
